Florida’s Tax Free WeekendAugust 1, 2014
Today is the day. Florida’s back-to-school tax holiday weekend has officially started. While we are sad to see the summer season come to an end, this three-day sale is a great opportunity to stock up on those items that remind us of fall.Â
So with classes on the cusp of resuming, there are a few things savvy shoppers need to know to save seven percent.Â
This year, the usual tax-free week has been limited to one weekend. That is right, just Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No extensions. The good news is that you do not have to beeline straight to the stores as eligible items purchased on the internet are also included.Â
So, what items fall under the tax-free umbrella? Well, garments and accessories up to $100 each qualify. This is $25 more than last year. Shoes will also ring up tax-free if the pair is less than $100. As always, sales tax will not be charged on traditional school supplies that sells for $15 or less per item, i.e. pens, pencils and erasers. Personal computer and certain accessories are also tax-free on the first $750 of the sales price when purchased for non-commercial use.Â
Ready to head out from your Northwest Florida real estate and start saving? Remember to use your coupons to take full advantage of this tax-free weekend!
