Gumbo Festival in SandestinJanuary 20, 2016
It’s Mardi Gras season, which means it’s time for good food, along with parades, beads and parties. If you have recently purchased real estate in Destin and are looking for ways to experience the season on the Gulf Coast, we highly suggest making your way to Sandestin for the annual gumbo festival.
The Sandestin Gumbo Festival is a full weekend of fun which takes place at the Village of Baytowne Wharf. This year, the event will kick off on Friday, February 12 with the Baytowne Seafood Boil at 4PM. Seafood boils are a cajun tradition right up there with moonpies! Seafood, boiled in Old Bay with corn cobs and potatoes, is a delicious southern experience.
The main event – the gumbo tasting – takes place on Saturday, February 13, 2016 and begins at noon. Sway to the sounds of the live Zydeco music as you make your way around the village tasting the gumbo creations of some of the area’s best restaurants and local businesses. Awards will be given in various categories before the Best in South Walton is crowned. Be sure to sample all available so you can cast your vote.
If you think this event sounds like a blast, grab your tickets today. Don’t forget, that weekend is also Valentine’s Day and this event would make for a spicy treat for your honey.Â
