Living at the Beach: Summer Sun Safety TipsJuly 6, 2016
Summer on the Gulf Coast is hot. And, if you have just purchased real estate in Destin and are experiencing these temps and humidity for the first time, allow us to pass on some of our best summer safety tips!
July is UV Safety Month. When we talk UV protection, especially under the Florida sun, we are talking about protecting yourself from more than just a sun burn. Yes, that’s one of the most instantly painful and recognizable effects of too much sun, but you also need to protect your your eyes and hydrate against heat stress.
Heat and humidity along the coast is at its worst between 10 AM and 4 PM, so plan any outdoor chores or activities early or late in the day. While the lawn needs to look nice, it can wait until late in the day! Also, be sure to wear a wide brim hat and sunglasses that protect your peepers from both UVA and UVB rays.
Our most estenial summer sun safety tips? Drink extra water, wear sunscreen and take advantage of our beaches or your pool to stay cool! Oh, and about that sunscreen. Make sure it is at least an SPF15, although an SPF30 is preferred. Also, one and done doesn’t suffice here. Reapply often to avoid a burn or lasting effects.
Stay cool out there and we hope you enjoy living on the Gulf Coast now that you own Destin real estate!
