Nighttime Educational Beach Walks in DestinJune 23, 2016
Are you spending your summer relaxing on the beach near your new real estate in Destin? Did you know we share it with more than just seasonal visitors? We share it with shorebirds that feed in the tidal pools, crabs that hang out near the shore and sea turtles that nest in the sand.
During sea turtle nesting season, The Emerald Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council offers Nighttime Educational Beach Walks. The walks are an educational experience to learn about sea turtles and why it is important to protect them and their nests. The event happens every Monday and Wednesday night throughout the summer and begins at 8 PM.
The walks are conducted by George Gray, the county’s Sea Turtle Coordinator. Gray is licensed by the state to conduct the annual endangered species survey. He is very knowledgeable and is sure to provide you and your family a fun experience!
The event is free but it does require a reservation. There are only 20 spots available on each walk for ages 6 and up. To reserve your spot please email [email protected] Times and locations are subject to change based off of weather and turtle nest availability.
The Nighttime Educational Beach Walks is an event we encourage you and your family to participate in and is an excellent way to get familiar with the area now that you own Destin real estate. Explore the Gulf Coast and learn about why sea turtles are so important to our area!
